Selena Gomez took the world by storm in the starring role of Alex Russo in the smash hit Disney Channel television series “Wizards of Waverly Place” (2007) playing a New York young teen girl with magical powers. While other young teen celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff grabbed new fans with their cloths and luxurious Hollywood lifestyle, Gomez chose tennis shoes and an 1980's hard rock groupie chic look, and she still had young fans hopeful to be just like her.

Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22, 1992 in New York, but grew up an only child in Grand Prairie Rexas. Her mother, Mandy Teefy, was a stage actress who encouraged her daughter to seek a career in the entertainment business. Her first acting job was “Barney & Friends” in 1992 where she portrayed Gianna, one of the purple dinosaur’s singing and dancing friends. It was during this audition that she met her best friend and co-star Demi Lovato. Lovato herself became a Disney star when she was hired and cast in the starring role alongside the Jonas Brothers in the 2008 television movie “Camp Rock.”.



When Selena was only ten years old, she participated in a Disney nationwide talent search and they fell in love with her immediately. She appeared in an episode of “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” starring Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse , followed by a returning guest role on the Disney network’s hit series “Hannah Montana” (2006- ) starring Cyrus. She played Mikayla, a opposing rock star to Hannah Montana. Portraying enemies on the sitcom, as well as a YouTube video Miley posted in 2008 that seemed to make fun of Gomez and her best friend Lovato, had many fans wondering whether the two celebrities were fighting in real life. In 2008, she lent her voice to the animated character Helga in the star studded movie "Horton Hears A Who" starring Jim Carrey, Steve Carell and Carol Burnett, about Horton the Elephant who struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors who refuse to believe it exists.

The young actress got another big break being hired and cast in the starring role in the musical comedy "Another Cinderella Story" (2008), a sequel to the first Disney Cinderella Story but with a modern twist. The film centers around a young dancer who meets a guy (Drew Seeley) at a ball where she drops her ipod while rushing out.

Gomez has also teamed with her friend Lovato in the television movie “Princess Protection Program” (2009), a family comedy about when a small country is invaded by a dictator and a young Princess is taken into custody by the Princess Protection Program. She is whisked away to rural Wisconsin where she must learn the ins and outs of behaving like a normal American teenager.

Selena also appeared in the Jonas Brothers’ music video for the song “Burnin’ Up” in July 2008 as youngest brother Nick’s onscreen girlfriend.
