Her svelte, tall frame and stunning smile was the embodiment of the classic California look, unique at the time in the world of high fashion.

By the time she was 17, Tiegs had made the cover of Glamour and later imitated the feat on Bazaar, Elle, Time, and Vogue. Her main claim to fame at the time however, was a profitable affiliation with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The partnership spanned three covers and several appearances in the magazine. A loyal following devoted to Tiegs was born as a result. Living proof of the latter was a 1978 poster in which Tiegs was resplendent in a pink bikini. The poster went on to become a staple in the bedroom of the American teenage male.

Cheryl Tiegs most recent marriage to a yoga instructor ten years her junior ended in divorce in February 2002. The blow was devastating to Tiegs, who discovered the bad news on her birthday in 2001.
